About how Blokker, the Dutch household retail chain, used to open every store with a lot of noise.
An intern showed us her portfolio a few years ago. Not only because of her designs, but also because of her research on Blokker, we still remember the presentation. In her booklet she showed the history of Blokker, the Dutch household retail chain, that now is closing down shops because of the lack of performance.
But why do we still remember this particular presentation? It was because of a vivid, fun, special and festive fact it showed. With every new store opening, Blokker literally brought in the music with a showband parading through the streets of the town. How pleasant and enchanting, full of fun and proudness?
That’s how retailing should be. Vivid, fun and special. Acting from the heart. This is what has been lacking the past years. So, for Blokker it might be too late, but let’s bring in the music again. Bring back the love in the stores and fun in the shopping streets.
